Reviews of M60 Transport of Ashton Under Lyne.

Looking for reviews of M60 Transport?

Many sites have a “testimonials” section. So we thought we would hop on the bandwagon.

Although we do have one or two older testimonials/reviews dotted about our site pages, we don’t have a dedicated page for them. Well, we do now!

We get quite a few very nice emails from people saying how pleased they are about our efficiency, big clean vans or our  general service.

I wanted to start to document one or two here. If you are happy with what we do, please tell us. We love to know!

If you are a social media user, we would also love to see your comments on one of our channels. You can find us >>here on Twitter<< and also >>here on Facebook<<.

The first one I want to share is from a third party removals website:

Review on M60 Transport Manchester

Rating: 5 Star Removal Rating, Posted by Mike Pearson on May 06, 2014

We used M60 Transport for our house removal from Manchester to Preston.

We didn’t have so much stuff, we managed it in two van loads. The cost was £200 and I was so pleased I gave the guys £10 each as a tip.

Big clean van, presentable blokes and no breakages at a decent price. I had been quoted £650 by other removal companies!

Exactly what it says on the tin!

You can verify the legitimacy of that review using >this link<.

The second one I wanted to share was a nice email we got this week:

We used M60 transport yesterday for a pretty last minute move, we used the 2 men service which was much needed. Both men were fantastic, they moved all required safely  and quickly and I couldn’t rate their service higher 10/10, we got a few quotes from other removal companies and we are so glad we didn’t use anyone else!

Thanks for everything yesterday, really great job.

Kind Regards
Cheryl & Stewart Reville

We thought it really nice, but as the chap also said, he couldn’t find anywhere on our site he could leave a review. So we thought we would fix that.

So if you are happy with our service, please use the comment box below to tell us and others about it. thumbs up

How To Save Money on Ashton Under Lyne Ikea Delivery

When you are buying something from Ikea in Ashton-Under-Lyne (or Warrington Ikea for that matter), you want to get it home.

Most of Ikea products are flat packed and designed in such a way that they are easy for you to take home yourself in your car, but sometimes, you need a van.

Ikea use contractors (located in their building) to deliver your goods to you, but at what price? Delivery charges are not published on the website, but they charge in zones which are calculated by distance from their store.

If they don’t publish prices, it isn’t likely to be cheap, right?

What if you want your stuff the same day? Here is what the Ikea site says:

We can deliver the same day/next day* for you within the store delivery area**. We can also arrange delivery outside this area and at a later date on selected items. Please speak to a co-worker in store for more information. Terms and conditions apply.

Please select your local store below to find out more information regarding home delivery for your IKEA store.

*Same day/next day delivery is subject to availability at our local transport partner. ** Please enquire at one of the information desks for the postcodes included in your store delivery area.

That sounds quite a mouthful and unnecessarily complicated doesn’t it?

What if there was an easier way?

There is. How about this:

Do I Need a Manchester Van & Man? What Type of Jobs?

What Kind of Jobs?

Many people call us up and say “What kind of jobs do you do?”

There is no particular type of job we do over any other. Yes, we do a lot of house removals and work for various companies.

On Monday we might be moving an American fridge freezer.

On Tuesday we might be moving three parrots in a huge cage to their new home (one we did recently).

On Wednesday we might go to France for a local business and collect some stock.

Most of our day-to-day work is small local jobs that can be completed in an hour or two. We also undertake full and part house removals.

As a general rule, if it will fit in our van, we will move it. The list of different and unusual things we have moved over the years is too numerous to list here.

We are also approved as carriers for most Councils and Housing Associations.

Many people use us to collect goods from stores rather than pay their excessive delivery charges. Many big stores charge anything between £35 and £70 for delivery to your house in three weeks time.

What they don’t tell you is that they are unable to offer a timed delivery to suit you. They hit you with the old, “Are you home all day?” line when it is in stock.

Most such stores will have your item sent to a store of your choice for collection by you (or us) free of charge. That way, we can collect it on your behalf and deliver it at a time to suit you.

We will even assemble flat pack furniture and dispose of the waste packaging for you.

Many people use us in order to get their goods at a time that suits them. Below are some of the more popular outlets we collect from:

  • Ikea collections and delivery. Buying from Ikea Ashton and want local delivery? £30 fixed price deliveries from Ashton Ikea to: Ashton Under Lyne, Stalybridge, Dukinfield, Mottram, Tintwistle, Glossop, Oldham, Hyde, Reddish, Denton, the Heatons, central Stockport, Gorton, Levenshulme, Daisy Nook, Beswick, Openshaw, Droylsden, Manchester City Centre, Burnage and Audenshaw.
  • Simon Charles Auctioneers Collections & Deliveries: Collection and delivery from Simon Charles Auctioneers. Don’t pay their eye-watering £69 delivery charge and usurious storage fees. Give us a call and we’ll meet you at Simon Charles Auctioneers in Ashton.
  • Snipe Retail Park Collections & Deliveries: Retail park collections from Harveys, Dreams, Bensons for Beds, DFS, B&Q, Currys, Comet, Argos, Staks, Makro, etc.
  • eBay Collections & Deliveries: Collection from the seller and delivery to you.

So as you can see, we can be quite diverse.

It doesnt matter if it is a house removal to France, a pickup from Ikea or a fridge you got at a great price on eBay.

How to keep the price down with your house removal

How to Keep the Price Down

You are moving house. You want to keep the price down don’t you?

Most people want to keep the price down. The most effective way to do this is to give some consideration to what you are moving in advance.

Will it come out of the existing house? Will it go into the new one? Are you sure?

If you want to keep the price down, you need to save time. Consider the points below.

  • Make sure anything that might move in transit is packed properly.
  • Empty furniture of belongings as it will probably be too heavy if you do not.
  • If anything needs to be dismantled, have the tools handy or perhaps dismantle it in advance (same if any doors need to be removed).
  • If you are moving a lot of stuff, perhaps over several journeys, get some more helpers. The more pairs of hands you can arrange means loading and unloading takes less time.
  • Make sure you have the keys to where we are going. We spend a lot of time waiting around for people whose friend was supposed to meet them with a key but now isn’t answering his phone. You get the idea…..
  • If you have a lot of stuff upstairs or in a cellar, consider moving it closer to the loading point in advance.
  • If vehicles need to be moved in order for us to gain access to anywhere, arrange this in advance. If we need to wait around because the neighbours car is blocking the driveway, and he is in the pub with the key in his pocket, this costs you time (and thus money).
  • Have accurate addresses to where we are going (including postcode). Saying, “I think it’s in Didsbury” when it is actually in Northenden or Withington does not help us at all. Be sure you give us the correct spellings of roads. We do not need directions, just accurate addresses.

None of this stuff is rocket science, but you would be surprised how few people actually do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

“How big are the vans?”

The vans are long wheelbase, high roof luton Mercedes Sprinters. The load space is 4 metres long by 2.1 Metres wide and 2.3 Meters high. In imperial, that is around 13′ long, 7′ wide and 7’6″ high. In simple terms: big enough for most things.

“Can I have a receipt?”

Of course, just let us know in advance that you will want one.

“Can you invoice us?”

Sorry. We do not give credit under any circumstances. We do not take cheques either.

I am shopping around for quotes. I need a fixed price?”

We do not quote in advance nor do we need to compete with others for work. Keep shopping around.

How much was it again?

One man and a luton van is £30 per hour. Two men and a luton van is £40 per hour. Minimum charge is one hour, subsequent time is charged in thirty minute (or part thereof) segments. Example: Two men and a luton van for an hour and a half will cost £60.

Will you do a discount?

Unfortunately not.

“Will you take a cheque?”

No. Payment is cash only.

“Are you insured?”

Not at these prices! Common sense has always negated the need for insurance.

“Are you available today?”

Although advance bookings are preferred, we do sometimes have short-notice availability. Please call 07860 787393 and ask.

We like to think we use common sense when planning your house removal or van and driver work with you. We are not interested in fleecing you for extra cash or getting as much out of you as possible. We want to make the experience painless and want you to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and tell your friends about us.

Why a Removal Quote is not Always Simple

Most people e-mail us asking for a quote or a price to do a particular job. We do not give quotes or prices – we charge by the hour.

Why don’t we give quotes? Because we haven’t seen the job. We haven’t seen the building where it is going from or to. We don’t know how heavy it is, how long loading and unloading might take, what the access is like or what the traffic might be like between one place and another.

Consider these two scenarios – Scenario One: Paul calls us and asks us to move a sofa from Reddish to Disbury after work at 5-30pm (in rush hour). He neglects to mention that it is a bed sofa that is very large and heavy. It is on the top floor of a three floor house. It takes some considerable time to get it out and into the van. When we arrive in Disbury, it is going into a very small house. It doesn’t fit through the door. The door has to be taken off to get it in. Nobody had a screwdriver handy. It took two and a half hours in total and cost Paul £75

Scenario Two: Mike calls us and asks us to move a sofa from Ashton to Gorton in the middle of the afternoon (less traffic). Mike’s sofa is a regular sofa, it is downstairs, and comes out of the door easily. He knew it might be a tight squeeze at the other end. However, he knew the destination house had rear patio doors that would make life easier. He had the key in his pocket and had moved all obstructions around the house and through the doors in advance. Mikes job took fifty minutes and cost him £30

We don’t know if your job is like Mike’s or like Paul’s. That is why we do not give firm quotes.

We don’t want to see you doing what this bloke is doing.

We are Finally on Facebook

Joining Facebook is one of those things we never got around to.

It seems the world and his wife are on Facebook, and every business you can think of, but somehow it has eluded us until today.

Do You Need a Removal Company or a Van and Man Service?

After lots of searching, you have finally found your ideal new house and your estate agent has found some proper people to buy your house, now all you have to do is find the best removal guys to help you move.

But when it comes to arranging some people to help you with your house removal, do you choose: a removal company or a man with a van?

Let’s start out with looking at the main differences between a Man and Van and a removal company.

Consider the size of the vehicles – Removal companies often operate large trucks to undertake their removals. These big lorries are great if you have a eight bedroom house or a mansion because you will probably be able to fit everything into one load.

But look, we do removals at mansions too:

Ashton Under Lyne Removals

If you live in a smaller house, and lets be honest, most of us in Ashton-Under-Lyne and Manchester do, then one or two 3.5t Luton vans will be absolutely fine for your move. A Luton or box van is also a great size vehicle for the small and narrow streets of Ashton-Under-Lyne. For most people living in a three or four bed home, a Luton or a box van is all you need.

Cost is another consideration– Probably one of the most important factors to anyone considering using a removal company. In general, a removal company will often be MUCH more expensive than a local man and van service.

“This must be because they are more professional” you may be thinking, Well, the answer is emphatically NO! The higher price in the quote you receive from the large removal company is because they have considerable overheads compared to most Man and Van services.

Both businesses need to pay for fuel, and both are likely paying for various insurances (vehicle insurance is a must).

But, a major cost associated with a large removal company is the running and operating costs associated with the large pantechnicon trucks. These trucks are very thirsty and drink fuel like a Geordie drinks beer on a stag night, the maintenance costs for these vehicles are very large and the salary for a transport manager has to be factored in as it’s a requirement when running these types of  trucks. All this has to be paid for, and guess who pays it? Yes, that’s right, YOU the customer.

“A Man and Van won’t be able to move all my stuff” you may think.  Think of all the times you have moved house and you roped in all your friends and family to help. It wouldn’t have been possible without so many people, right?…. Wrong actually!

Taking an average three to four bedroom house move as a typical example, a good two or three man team is more than adequate.

Manchester Removals

There is no need for someone sitting about, dangling his legs over the side of a removal truck, eating chips, having cups of tea and bacon sandwiches at 10am (look out for the next big removal van you see, half the guys will be doing nothing!)

Our small removal team find that anything more than two or three people on most jobs means they just end up getting in the way of each other. A typical job around Manchester means our two man teams can normally clear everything out of a house within two or three hours, and unload it at the other end within an hour or two.

How? because we don’t clown around, we are very, very experienced and, if you happen to be the first job of the day, then we probably have several more jobs to get done that day so we need to get on with it.

Packing services? It’s not just the large removal companies who offer a packing service for when you move house. We can’t speak for other man and van services but at M60 Removals we can provide all the boxes and packing materials you will need for your move, as well as packing all the valuable items for you. We also have agreements with local storage companies, the discounts for which, we are happy to pass along to you – as you will deal direct!

Quality of service: If a removal company say they were established in 1896, they must be better? Not necessarily. We get feedback from customers all the time telling us we were so much better than the large removal companies they used last time; not to mention half the price!

We take off our hat to a company that has been operating for three generations, but more often than not, the original owner and family have nothing to do with the company anymore, someone else bought the company and uses the company history as a selling point.

Also, a large removal company often relies on young, low paid and inexperienced staff to assist on jobs where customer service levels are not always the number one priority.

A good man and van service can, and will, offer exactly the same customer service as a huge removal company; often better.

At M60 Removals we  always know what time we should arrive and where we are going. Our day to day operations and procedures are often as good as any large removal company; if not better!

Bigger is better? Not true, some of the largest businesses and organisations in Manchester and Ashton-Under-Lyne use our services on a regular basis. New Charter in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside Council, numerous Ashton-Under-Lyne schools, Bensons for Beds, Harveys….. the list goes on.

Our customer feedback shows many large business and organisations all use us for the same reason, because we are experienced, we are professional, we arrive when we say we are going to and we get the job done. Actually, a few of our regular commercial clients only use our Man and Van service now because they were tired of getting let down by larger removal companies.

The choice is yours – The reality is there isn’t any difference between a good man and van company and a good removals company when it comes to service. As long as the man and van has the right size vehicle and uses skilled and experienced, then they will be just as good as any removals company.

In fact, both are removals companies, one just uses slightly smaller vans and charges much less! thumbs

If you need help with a removal in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside, Stockport or Manchester to anywhere in the UK (we do overseas moves too) and require further advice, assistance or a free quote then please feel free to peruse our main website where you will find all the information you will need.

How Removals Look Far Away From Manchester

As those who follow our Twitter account will know, we get far away from Manchester, Stockport and Tameside now and again.

Some will know of our regular runs to France, Belgium, Spain and occasionally Ibiza, but we managed to get even further than that a couple of months ago.

Heading out of the UK via the Channel Tunnel is something we do often, as is heading north into Belgium.

But then we continued across the tip of Holland, into Germany and onward into Poland. And then when you get to the other side of there, you see multiple countries on the road signs.

Removals France

Here we can see country codes on the signs for not only Poland, but Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia as well.

Well, we were heading north up the Baltic coast road, and before too long, you start to see these here and there.

And a little further still, we find ourselves here.

That insignificant looking place is Narva, the border town between Estonia and the Russian Federation. The photo above is the border control into Russia.

Russia isn’t like sunny Manchester folks. In fact, we had a budget from our client to feed some of these guys at the roadside.

But the less said about that the better I expect.

Removal vans out there are not quite what you expect, and nothing at all like we find in Ashton-Under-Lyne!

Here is another delivery van dropping off some stuff to a local shop.

You have heard the phrase, “Where the streets have no name”? Well, they have names, but they are all in an alphabet that a Manchester van and man chap isn’t likely to encounter too often.

That journey was almost 2000 miles each way from Manchester and took close to ten days in total.

Trust me, you don’t want to know what it cost. But it was considerably more than we would charge you for a house removal in and around Manchester.
